I have held a variety of positions in education, including classroom teacher and senior executive positions in administration. However, my greatest satisfaction is working with students to instill interest and competence in reading and writing. I enjoy helping students, at different ages and at all levels of achievement, to improve the capacity to understand ideas and to express themselves clearly.
Neen Hunt’s career has spanned many roles: teacher, Head of School, teacher trainer, researcher, lecturer, tutor, executive coach, and consultant. In addition, she has held executive leadership positions with several non- profits, including the Albert and Mary Lasker Foundation, United Nations Association and Scripps Research Institute. She is an experienced Board member, having been elected to the Midori Foundation, the Myelin Repair Foundation, the Public Education Association, the National Health Museum, and the WorldLink Foundation (China). Additionally, she has been on the Board of Advisors for the Global Health Forum of the Aspen Institute and for Research! America. She is a sought after public speaker about non-profit organizations and has presented at the National Health Museum and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation among other venues. She has authored many articles about leadership issues and has been published in Foundation News and Commentary.
Dr. Hunt graduated Phi Beta Kappa, cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania and earned a Master of Arts in Education and a Doctorate from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She began her career as an English teacher, and has many years of classroom teaching experience in public, independent, and alternative school settings in middle and high schools, and has taught in the Middle East and in China. She has held key administrative positions with the Philadelphia, Boston, and New York City School systems, designing curriculum, planning new school settings, and conducting research studies. She has trained teachers and principals at Bank Street School of Education, and was an assistant lecturer at Wellesley College and at the Harvard School of Education.
From l980 until l992, Dr. Hunt was the Head of the Calhoun School, a progressive co-ed independent school for students in grades N-l2. Under her leadership, the school received Presidential recognition as an exemplary educational institution; a successful capital campaign supported the expansion of the campus to a second setting; and admissions increased to bring the school to full enrollment. The Calhoun library is now dedicated to her. As Head of School, Dr. Hunt was elected to senior officer positions with local and national organizations, including the Board of Directors of the Public Education Association of New York City, the NY State Association of Independent School (NYSAIS), the Association of Teachers in New York city Independent Schools (ATIS), the Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY), the Headmistress Association of the East, the New York City Headmasters’ Association, the Country Day Headmasters’ Association, the National Association of Principals of Schools for Girls (NAPSG), and the Guild of New York City Independent Schools. Most recently, Dr. Hunt has been providing executive coaching, leadership training, strategic planning, and consulting for governing boards in public and independent schools, as well as for foundations, medical research institutions and other non profits.
